The Chaplains Challenge for 2023 took place between 11th and 13th August, with a total of £3000 being raised. This culminated with
a social at the Lord Kitcheners Hotel on Sunday evening the 13th a buffet was provided.
The coarse was between Bewdsey to the lifeguard station at
Pakefield beach over the two days. This all depended on the weather conditions as to which route was covered, a backup route was planned if
the conditions at sea turn nasty.
This is the same route as the first challenge and covered the coast of the province.
Some brethren, kayaker's and support team, had been meeting on most Thursday mornings previously, talking and updating the arrangements.
The charity that was supported this year was "Solving Kids Cancer" which supported a Lowestoft girl,
Jessica Butler, in her cancer treatment which was not covered by the NHS.
The lodge started the charity event in 2019, beating the COVID lockdown and raising over £4000 for action Medical Reasearch,
by kayaking from Felixstowe to Lowestoft. This charity funds research into beating diseases that devastate the lives of children.
The lodge continued running this event in 2022, as the lockdown finished, the event this time was for the Sandra Chapman Cancer Centre at the
James Paget Hospital Gt Yarmouth.This was to raise money for two special treatment chairs,
and the target was reached raising over £4000. The course this time was to kayak 40 miles around the James Paget to co-inside with the 40th anniversary of the hospital.
The centre treats cancer patients from Norfolk and Suffolk including many of the public and masons as well as family members, lately some are still being treated there
and some have lost close family from this disease.
