About Freemasonry
Orient Lodge 4085, located in Lowestoft, Suffolk, was founded in 1929 by members of Lodge of Unity No. 71. Our membership is drawn from all walks of life, creating a vibrant and welcoming community. The lodge is active, with a mix of younger and older masons, and fosters an inclusive environment for both new candidates and joining members.

“Freemasonry means something different to each individual. For some, it’s the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends, and to develop a social life for both the member and his family. Some join because they love the traditions and want to learn more about our 300-year history. For others, it’s the chance to get involved in an organization that makes a considerable contribution to society.”
Formally, Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal, and charitable organizations. It does not discriminate on grounds of race, colour, religion, political views, or social or economic standing. Its principles are based on kindness, honesty, fairness, tolerance, and integrity. For all its members, Freemasonry is, quite simply, enjoyable.
